In 1968, they made something most of their audience didn’t understand — eight minutes of tape loops, fragments of speech, reversed samples, and a voice repeating “Number nine” over and over. Half the people skipped it. The other half had their minds permanently rearranged.
About this design: Fluxus avant-garde collage. “No. 9” repeated three times — clean Helvetica, distorted hand-drawn, then mirror-reversed. Reel-to-reel tape recorder, sine waves, torn newspaper fragments. Heavy Xerox grain.
